Tired of junk mail? I was, and I did something about it. I called the United States Postal Service at 800-460-8366 and asked if they could restrict or reduce the amount of junk mail I was receiving. I went on vacation and ever since, I have received about 5 vacation brochures a day. C’mon, travel agencies, back off.
I was told by a very polite USPS service phone representative that the USPS could not remove my name from a junk mail list (I thought there was one but was informed it doesn’t exist) because by law companies pay the USPS to deliver mail, but I did learn that I could have my name and address removed from national mailing lists by sending my name, and all variations of it, addresses, and signature with a request to remove / delete my name, to the following address:
MAIL PREFERENCE SERVICE
DIRECT MARKETING ASSOCIATION
P.O. BOX 643
CARMEL, NY 10512-0643
USPS also sent me a letter titled “Ways to Stop Advertising Mail” to me and it contained more addresses. That’s invaluable. BTW, there is NO charge to remove a name. For more info, check out www.e-mps.org
I may not get any more coupons and discounts, but at least I won’t get 30 invitations to explore Alabama every week.
