Come and listen to my story about a man named Jeb

Friday, September 30th, 2005

This is a very interesting article I found on Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” Law (AKA Shoot First Law) which goes into effect tomorrow…. You can read more about it here . I can see how the thought that the states crime rate would drop if the law was passed, but come on there’s got to be a better way.

Rita Falling Apart

Friday, September 23rd, 2005

Rita will be no Katrina. I had a hunch as soon as this storm started downsizing from 175, it would soon be Cat 3 or lower. It looks now like its very possible it will be a Category 2, and far from what Katrina brought to Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. I predict less than 115mph at landfall…

Rita Impacts in San Antonio

Friday, September 23rd, 2005

Evacuees from Houston are coming to San Antonio in droves. It’s locked up the highways on 10 and 45. I overheard that an estimated 300,000 people came to SA this weekend, but that’s only an estimate. I have heard that people were coming from Corpus Christi as well because the original projected path gave them a scare. Some are now leaving to return to Corpus since Rita is taking a northerly turn towards east TX and western Louisiana at the time of this posting. If San Antonio feels any of Rita’s wrath, it will come in the form of high winds and flooding, stranding people wherever they are, but we are used to that. (more…)

Correction: Major Hurricane in the Gulf on Wednesday

Wednesday, September 21st, 2005

Rita - already at 140MPH winds - just 16 miles shy of Category 5, and 5 miles shy of where Katrina was when she made land fall. What’s an area of concern (and there are many of course) is the tight compact eye we are seeing with this storm. It could be a more compact storm potentially with more power near the eye than Katrina…
